Hayward High Hosts Alameda County D.A. Debate

On May 14th, Hayward High opened the farm to a townhall-style debate for the Alameda County District Attorney candidates, Pamela Price and Nancy O'Malley. Students and community members packed the cafeteria and readied their questions. Co-organizer and social science teacher Nancy Ogden observes, "It was Democracy in real life. Students asked insightful, important and challenging questions of the candidates." Social science teacher Bryan Daley also notes, "The D.A. debate was a perfect way to engage the students in how the criminal justice system impacts them and to ... gain more civic and social awareness. It shows that the process of justice can be delivered in many ways." Just one more example showing how HHS extends learning beyond the classroom. #RTF
