15 GENERAL SHOP SAFETY RULES
  1. Stay alert! Be aware of your surroundings and other people at all times.
     
  2. Always wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as required by the job. Safety glasses should be worn at all times.
     
  3. Report all injuries to the instructor, even minor injuries.
     
  4. Report any unsafe conditions or broken equipment to the instructor.
     
  5. Fighting, swearing, and horseplay are not allowed in the shop.
     
  6. Backpacks, purses, large jackets, sports equipment, open-toed shoes or sandals are not permitted on the shop floor. Food and beverages are also not permitted on the shop floor.
     
  7. Loose clothing and long hair must be secured when using any machine. Long sleeves must be rolled up. Bracelets, rings, necklaces, and other jewelry must be removed.
     
  8. No person is permitted to work in the shop while under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication, or while excessively tired. 
     
  9. Never attempt to use any machine unless you have had full instruction on its proper operation and you feel comfortable using it.
     
  10. Ask your instructor for permission before using any machine, or when making any special set-ups to a machine.
     
  11. Ask for help when attempting to transport or cut long, awkward, or heavy material.
     
  12. Use machine guards, push sticks and other safety features whenever possible.
     
  13. Do not talk to, distract, or crowd around anyone operating a machine. Do not look away or talk to anyone while operating a machine.
     
  14. Be aware of your hands and other body parts when using any tool or machine. Maintain a minimum 4” distance between your hand and any bit or blade. Cut away from yourself whenever possible.
     
  15. Always let a machine come to a complete stop before walking away or making any adjustments.
