Physical Education Distance Learning with Dr. Lockett and Bio below

Hey everybody,

My name is Benjamin Lockett. I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. I can say I was extremely fortunate to grow up in such a diverse place. I was a student-athlete from Kindergarten to 12th grade within San Francisco Unified School District. I continued my academic and athletic career at San Francisco State University. During my time at SFSU, I became the number one ranked wrestler in the nation for my weight class, and in 2009 reached NCAA All-American status. I graduated from SFSU with my BA in Criminal Justice. After graduating SFSU, I went back and helped coach at my high school alma mater. I helped them win two section championships in wrestling, while continuing my education online at Concordia University, Irvine where I received my Master’s in Athletic Administration and Coaching.

Then I accepted a position as athletic director at Wallenberg High School, which is a small public school in San Francisco. While working as athletic director and coach, I continued my education for my PhD in Education with an emphasis in Sports Management at Northcentral University. I had to step down as athletic director at Wallenberg because I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma stage 3 going on stage 4. After a difficult recovery, I obtained my PhD over the summer of 2018. Along with being one of the PE teachers at Southgate Elementary, I am currently working as a high school Physical Education Teacher and Head High School Wrestling and Badminton coach at Hayward High.

I hope to bring my experience, work ethic, compassion, and sense of humor to my classroom. I learned so many lessons about life and how to develop and cultivate relationships with individuals of different cultural backgrounds. I hope to develop  great relationship with my students and help them receive their high school diploma, while accomplishing their personal and academic goals. I want to develop the overall student as a person. I love that I get to do that through using Physical Education and Athletics. My experiences with educators and coaches is why I chose teaching as a profession. The impact these individuals can have on a child is monumental.
